Basic accommodation within easy walking distance of city centre. Good if you want to explore York for one or two nights Positive: Well positioned and clean Negative: Basic, sofa and bed not particularly comfortable. Mattress was thin, cheap foam. Sofa was a very basic ‘clic clac’ sofa bed type more suited to a waiting room than a sitting room. WiFi gave out for most of second day. The unit was also overly hot and the heat could not be controlled by the thermostat, only remotely by the agent. Described as ‘dog friendly’ but is in fact only ‘dog tolerant.’ You have to leave £25 cash if you have a dog with you and on arrival you’re sent a text warning that your dog isn’t allowed on the sofa or bed or you will incur an extra cleaning charge. Which rather begs the question - what is the £25 for? Surely if the dog is only allowed on the floor and the floor is going to be mopped anyway, the £25 is a bit unnecessary.

Well located studio apartment Positive: Lovely studio apartment close to the centre of York. Conveniently located between the city and the University campus and perfect for the marathon route. Comes with it's own parking space which is great. Nicely furnished and well equipped. Negative: The sofa bed was not as comfortable as a proper mattress but that's probably to be expected.

Negative: Issue with the hot water, advised host and took about 10 messages for them to agree to send a plumber. Plumber came and after visit, water was Luke warm rather than freezing. I couldn’t call the host to discuss so had to keep going with the messages. Just made it hard work, so once we had Luke warm water, we didn’t raise it again. Shame - not want you want in December!
